If you’ve been to a meeting for your HOA Board, City Council, or watched any of the Congressional Hearings, then you have probably heard someone talking about a parliamentary rule or Robert’s Rules. Robert’s Rules of Oder was originally published in 1876 and continues to be relevant to running meetings in today’s world. The Robert’s Rules website states, “Robert’s Rules of Order is America’s foremost guide to parliamentary procedure. It is used by more professional associations, fraternal organizations, and local governments than any other authority.” Essentially, Robert’s Rules provide the structure to how formal meetings are handled.
While you can certainly order and read the current edition of Robert’s Rules of Order, some might prefer this series of Practical Robert’s Rules videos. One is a fantastic 45-minute quick start guide.
